A state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical production services facility is on the horizon for North Central Florida. This facility, to be run by the University of Florida's Center of Excellence for Regenerative Health Biotechnology, is 23,500 ft2 (gross) and will house up to 11,080 ft2 of cleanrooms and supporting space. The facility will have the capacity to produce mammalian protein and vaccine products that can be applied toward therapies for the prevention, cure, and rehabilitation of chronic, genetic, and degenerative diseases, as well as traumatic injuries, microbial infections, and cancer.
Building on the University of Florida's biotechnology focus, the facility will be proximal to the University of Florida's Sid Martin Biotechnology Development Incubator in Alachua's Progress Corporate Park, approximately 13 miles north of the University of Florida's main campus in Gainesville. Once construction is completed, this manufacturing operation will be compliant with Federal regulations for investigational drug manufacturing, and will produce high-quality biopharmaceuticals for human clinical trials.
